Privacy Policy

Bass Field Book is built by an angler, for anglers, with a simple rule: your fishing data is yours. There are no accounts, no ads, and we never sell or rent your information to anyone.

Where your data lives

Your catches, waypoints, trip notes, gear records, and settings are stored on your device. We do not run a server that holds your fishing log. If you enable the optional Google Drive backup, a backup file is written to your own Google Drive using Google's limited "drive.file" permission — we can only see the backup file the app itself creates, nothing else in your Drive.

Location

The app uses your location to show your position on the map, tag catches and waypoints you choose to save, fetch weather for where you are, and power safety alerts. If you arm Lightning Watch or a trip mode, your coordinates and your device's push-notification address are sent to our alert service so a server can watch the sky around your position and notify you. That record is kept only while your watch is active (at most 48 hours) and is then deleted automatically. Location is never used for advertising and never sold or shared for any other purpose.

Push notifications

If you allow notifications, your device's push address is stored by our alert service to deliver the alerts you asked for (lightning, generation starts, check-in reminders, tournament-week reminders). Disabling notifications or letting a watch expire removes it.

Anonymous install counting

On first launch the app sends a one-time, randomly generated ID and general device type (for example, "Android phone") so we can count installs. It contains nothing that identifies you.

Data from third parties

The app displays data from services including Google Maps, Open-Meteo (weather), Xweather (lightning), and public generation/water data from TVA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Alabama Power. Requests to these services are subject to their own privacy policies; where possible we proxy requests so your identity is not exposed to them.

Sharing you control

Trip reports, lineups, spots, and backups leave the app only when you tap share or export. Trip reports never include GPS coordinates. Spot exports include locations only because that is their purpose — you choose who receives them.

Deleting your data

Everything local can be erased in the app (Setup → Import/Export → Erase) or by uninstalling and clearing the app's data. Server-side watch records expire automatically. Drive backups are files in your own Google Drive that you can delete anytime.

Children

Bass Field Book is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13.
